Manchester United believe they are leading the race to sign Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils were desperate to sign the England international last summer and Metro.co.uk exclusively revealed he was identified in the early weeks of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign as a priority target.

Though the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League ended United’s hopes last summer, Solskjaer remains determined to sign the winger as a solution to the club’s long-term problems on the right flank.

Sancho’s decision to leave England for Germany has been widely applauded but he’s endured a difficult term at Dortmund this season and reports earlier this month claim the teenager feels scapegoated for the club’s poor form.

While Dortmund are believed to be reluctant to sell in January, it’s looking increasingly likely that they’ll cash in next summer and the Telegraph report that Sancho has suitors in United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool.

While United cannot offer the same level of football to Sancho as the other three clubs, the Telegraph claim the Red Devils are winning the race.

Sancho is believed to want to return to the Premier League and Liverpool – the only other viable suitors – are unwilling to get into an auction for the winger.

It’s likely the teenager will cost around £100m, which would comfortably make him the most expensive player in British football history.
