Tottenham have sacked Mauricio Pochettino and replaced the Argentine with former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

The Special One will immediately be looking at how he can strengthen his squad with the January transfer window just around the corner.

And Mourinho has made a habit in his career of going back to his former clubs.

So who could the Portuguese bring in from former club United at Tottenham? Express Sport takes a look.

Nemanja Matic

Jose Mourinho has a long history with the central midfielder.

He enjoyed working alongside him at Chelsea and made him one of his first signings at Manchester United when he succeeded Louis van Gaal.

Matic is well down the pecking order at Old Trafford and is out of contract in the summer.

That means the 31-year-old could join on the cheap and would add depth and experience in the middle of the park.

Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick is currently working alongside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United.

But the former Tottenham midfielder would be welcomed back to the club with open arms and could add a different dimension to the Special One’s coaching staff.

Carrick would also compliment Mourinho’s abrasive style.

In particular, the former England international could liaise with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier.

David De Gea

With Hugo Lloris out with a serious injury and unconvincing before that David De Gea would be a suitable replacement.

The United goalkeeper has just signed a new contract at the club though so it could cost a lot to sign him.

Mourinho knows that a Premier League title challenge starts with a world class shot stopper though.

De Gea may also think a change of scenery is what he needs at this point in his career.
