Manchester United have distanced themselves from a move for Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina.

The Gabon international was left out of Southampton’s pre-season tour after the club agreed to Lemina’s wish to leave this summer.

The 25-year-old, who moved to the Saints from Juventus, was a target for Arsenal before his move to the south coast and the Gunners are said to be interested in his services again this time around.

Lemina is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford but ESPN report that United have dampened expectations over a move for the midfielder.

United were stunned by Newcastle’s £50m valuation of Longstaff and are considering ending their interest in the 21-year-old.

Ed Woodward met with representatives of the Magpies last week and submitted a proposal worth between £18-£20m.

But Newcastle have no interest in letting the midfielder leave and cited the £55m United paid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka as proof of where the market is for a player of Longstaff’s quality.

Lemina, for his part, is desperate to leave St Mary’s and shared a video on his official Twitter page this week that displayed his skills since moving to the Premier League.
